Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

AIM: Perform thebelow mentioned tasks on a CAD geometry-

  • Inspection
  • Geometry Cleanup
  • Mid-Surfacing
  • Quality Checks
  • Meshing

Procedure:

  1. Import the Cad geometry in the ANSA. The CAD file must be a .stp file.
  1. Perform topology on the geometry
  2. Go to mesh and change the parameter length to 1mm so that we have a clear idea of how the geometry will look like.
  3. Now, Check whether the geometry has a uniform thickness
  1. Check the properties of the geometry.
  2. Perform geometry checks
  3. We can see a lot of geometry errors such as triple cons and single cons.
  4. Remove all errors and recheck whether any error remains
  5. Go to properties and isolate each property
  6. Now, remove half of the symmetric side
  7. Now, remove all the unnecessary construction lines so that we can catch the complex features.
  8. Set the quality parameters and than star performing mesh.
  9. Do the same for all other properties
  10. Wherever necessary change the geometry so that you can catch the feature.

Conclusion:

We can conclude that the mesh has been generated for the geometry and we can also see that the % of trias is <15% as per our quality criteria.
