Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

Objective :

  • Checking the Geometrical error & performing the Geometry clean up on the Hood Model's all parts .
  • Extracting the Midsurface of all the parts of the hood .
  • Meshing the Midsurface extracted with the given Quality Criteria .
  • Thickness assignement to all the parts .

Procedure :

  • CAD model is imported and Geometrical errors are checked .
  • Geometry check is performed on the Hood Model.
  • Some Geometrical errors are corrected .

  • Here Another surfaces are created as ,

  • Again Geometrical check is performed on the model .
  • Now this time There are now any Geometrical errors found .

  • Munually midsurface extracted of the Outer panel .
  • At Heming region , for avoiding the minimum length element fail , Mid line is taken and other upper and lower Cons are deleted .

  • And Manual meshing is done surface by surface on the upper pannel with the given Qualtiy criteria .

  • Now Hatch part is taken for the meshing .
  • Here Auto midsurface is extracted .
  • And Cons are deleted , where elements would have fail for the minimum length .

  • MAnual meshing is done surface by surface as ,

  • Now Hing parts are Taken and Geometrical check is done on the same part .
  • Some geometrical error wrere found .
  • This errors are corrected manually by releasing the cons and again performing TOPO operation .
  • Again on performing the Geometrical check , no errors were found as

  • For manual midsurface extraction , lower surface is offseted with the half distance 0.6 mm of the part .

  • Hole perimeter is adjested so that we'll get the best meshine flow .

  • Cons is toggled where the elements were failling for the minimum length .

  • Manual meshing with the Best meshing Operation is done on the midsurface extracted of the hinge part as ,

  • Now inner panel is checked for the Geometrical errors and found some errors as ,

  • Some of this errors are fixed automatically and some are fixed manually as ,

  • Again Inner panel is checked for the Geometrical errors and didn't found any errors this time .

  • Now this inner panel is divided into half as it is symmetrical in vertical axis for most of the part .
  • Half part is deleted and only half part is meshed .
  • This half part is then Translated into the another half region .
  • This method saved lots of time .

  • Thickness is assigned to the sheel elements by measuring the Thickness of the parent geometry .

Results :

  • The meshed parts of the Hood's modela are as ,

Outer Extract pannel :

  • Inner Extract panel :

  • Latch reinforcement :

  • Hinge reinforcement :

Conclusion :

  • Midsurface for all the parts are extracted .
  • All parts are Meshed with the given target element length .
  • Mesh Quality is Pass all the provided Quality criteria needs to be passed .
  • Thickness also assigned .

MIDSURFACE EXTRACTION METHOD USED :

  • Midsurface extraction is done by Auto midsurface Method.
  • As there will not be any difference between the extracting the midsurface Manually and Auto midsurface .
  • Auto midsurface will save your time than the Manual midsurface .
  • Manual Midsurface extraction :
  • Auto midsurface Extraction :
