Week 2 Session 7

Objective:

To describe the EV architecture.

EV architecture:

Motor is the heart of the propulsion system.

Motor controller will draw current from the battery and deliver to the motor.

Battery can change eithier from external supply or by regenerative braking.

Types of EV architecture:

*series,

*parallel,

*series parallel.

Series:

In series system there are ICE and motor ,motor is connected to the transmission system.

ICE produces a power through generator and charges the battery goes to the motor and motor gets electical energy eithier from generator or battery.

In regenerative mode it deaccelerates the engine or motor to slow the vehicle.

Parallel:

This are two components motor and ICE are connected to transmission system. It can works eithier in battery mode or engine mode.

In hybrid mode both motor and ICE is used to functioning the vehicle.

In regenerative braking it deaccelerates the engine and motor power.

Series parallel mode:

In series parallel engine mode takes fuel from the tank and another part of the motor takes propulsion power using the battery with help of power converter unit.

Pro's:

*It doesn't needs the multi ratio gear box.

*It works both engine and motor to propulsion the vehicle in hybrid mode.

Con's:

*More space is required for inbuilt the components in the vehicle.

*In series architecture it is used to built only the heavy vehicles architecture.
