Week 4 Session 5
Types of power converter:
*AC to AC power converter.
*DC to AC power converter.
*AC to DC power converter.
*DC to DC power converetr.
Uses of power converter:
*Delivering power to auxiliary loads operating at different voltages.
*Using low voltages battery to high voltages battery.
Power electronics devices:
1)Laptop charger:
*230V AC input from power supply is converted into 230V unregulated DC output to 19.5V regulated DC output. Here using the buck converter for stepdown the voltage.
*MOSFET is used as a power conveter devices.
2)EV charging station:
*6.6 kV AC input to 400V DC output. here using the boost converter to stepup the voltages.
*BJT is used as a power converter device.
3)HVDC interface:
*440kV AC input to 500kV DC output. Here using the boost converter to stepup the voltage.
*IGBT is used as a power converter device.
