Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
CHALLENGE-2: Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
AIM:
To mesh the surface of a pressure valve by using ANSA software.
OBJECTIVE:
- To open the given geometry in ANSA and to cleanup the geometry appropriately.
- To carry out triangular meshing on the surface of geometry with different target lengths of 5mm, 3mm and 1mm and compare the results.
PROCEDURE:
1. Open the geometry in the ANSA software and check the errors in geometry by Checks > Geometry> Execute.

2. Cleanup the surface of geometry by filling the gaps present by creating new surface from New option on the left tabular column followed by selecting either Existing Surf or COONS or FITTED option and selecting the single cons in the gaps. Fill Hole option can also be used for filling the holes presents.
3. After filling the gaps and holes eliminate small surface by selecting the cut option and right clicking on to the cons which need to eliminate.
4. After completing the cleanups provide each part with suitable PID name by selecting the Property from top tabular column and creating new PIDs like Inlet, Outlet, Body, Spring etc and applying each PIDs to necessary parts. The diagram shown below representes the complete cleaned up geomerty.

5. Now move to the meshing tab. On the meshing tab set the perimeter and macro length as 5 mm by selecting the whole object.
6. From the Mesh Property drop down set meshing type as triangular and target length as 5mm. ( Set maximum and mimumum target length as 4mm and 7mm).
7. On the left tabular column click on spot mesh under Mesh generation section and select each PIDs and do meshing.
8. Repeat step 5, 6, 7 with traget size 3mm and 1mm. The meshed geometry is shown in Result and Discussion session.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
The figures shown below is the meshed geometry with traget length of 5mm.

The figures shown below is the meshed geometry with traget length of 3mm.

The figures shown below is the meshed geometry with traget length of 1mm.

From these result it can be seen that with decrease in the target length from 5mm to 1mm the accuracy of meshing increases. From the meshing of spring it is observed that with target length of 5mm the spring geomerty is not accurate as compared with target length of 1mm. Thus it is concluded that with decrease in the target length accuracy of meshing increases rapidly.
CONCLUSION:
The given geometry is studied and a topology cleanup is carried out in the geometry. Then meshing of the same geometry is carried out in 3 different cases with target length of 5mm, 3mm and 1mm. The comparison of these 3 cases is also obtained and discussed.
