Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Aim: To cleanup topology and mesh for different target lengths.

Objective:

  • Target length = 1mm, 3 mm and 5 mm (i.e. 3 cases)
  • Element type = Tria

Procedure:

1. Impot the geometry into the ANSA

File -->Open --> .ANSA, file to be meshed

2. To perform Topology clean-up:

To Perform geometry checks to find errors.

Checks --> Geometry -->(Uncheck macros) Execute.

Clean-up:

Filling holes in small or circular gaps.

Fill holes --> select holes --> apply

In Faces New --> Fitted --> apply

(select entity below)

Select entity wise to fill at corner circular shapes as shown.

Insert the outlet

Faces --> Coons --> apply

Assigning PIDs to the parts:

Create PIDs : Select PIDs -->New --> Shell property (Rename accordingly)

Inlet, oulet and body is assigned first

Body:

Inlet:

Oulet:

Hide all the these parts, and to attach PIDs to inner parts.

Base surface:

Column:

Pressure head

Spring:

Meshing:

Select Mesh tool

Mesh Parameters:

Mesh quality:

Select length in parameters

Select particular parts assign macros and perimeters to 5

Select body, inlet, outlet individually and apply.

Hide the outer parts to mesh inner parts

Mesh all the inidividual parts in the same way.

Spring:

Outcome:

Similarrly for mesh the for different length:

3 mm

1 mm:

(3 different mesh models are attached below)

Conclusion:

Meshing at target length 5 and 3, mesh at spring and pressure valve head around edges results in dis-order of shape.

It is better to mesh at lesser target length for better details.
