Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

AIM: To mesh given model. with element type : tria 1mm, 3mm & 5mm.

Procedure:

  • Importing model.
  • Performing geometry checks and finding single cons, cracks etc.
  • Creating new faces to clear all single cons.

  • checking for geometry again. found ok.
  • Using cut option clearing all small segments to avoid problem during meshing.
  • Assigning PID for all internal parts. like body, inlet, outlet, valve head, spring, column, base.

  • assigning mesh length for different mesh lenghts, like 1mm, 3mm & 5mm.
  • assigning minimum lenght of 0.5-2, 1-4 & 3-7mm, respectively.
  • Since spring has dia of approx 3 mm assigned 1mm as meshing length for that part.
  • meshing completed tried for all 3 mesh lengths given.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Topology cleanup
  • Creating new surfaces and types of new face creation.
  • Usage of PID, ENTITY options.
  • Using cut options to hide double cons
  • Assigning of PID to various child parts inside the model.
  • Selection of objects to complete job.
  • Meshing all parts according to various mesh lenght.

Results: Meshing has been completed for given model in all mesh lenghts given.

Conclusion: Results were good when 1mm is used as mesh length (min 0.5, max 2).since all geometry properties & shapes are maintained.
