Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
OBJECTIVE
For the given model (Pressure valve) To mesh the model with adequate steps and explain the process destined to reach the final mesh.
Given Target length for the mesh model
- Target length = 1mm, 3 mm and 5 mm (i.e. 3 cases)
- Element type = Tria
Procedure
- TOPOLOGY
Topology is the first and basic step to do for the geometrical model which in further is meshed accordingly.
- The given model is incomplete and the errors are rectified during topo cleanup

- After completing the topo clean up the model looks like,
After completing topo cleanup now PID segmentation for the model has to be given .

After creating PIDs ,the un assigned PIDs are to be deleted, so the unassigned PIDs are selected and deleted. Here in this model the 36 SHELL PROPERTY is the unwanted PID
MESHING:
- Before meshing the model, the quality criteria and target parameters for the model to be specified
- Meshing is carried out for each PID

After specifying the quality and target paramaters for meshing the model. Now the mesh length is given for perimeter and macros
I meshed from inner side of the model as follows
- Target length -1mm
COLUMN

SPRING,VALVE HEAD,BASE

MODEL WITH BASE BODE,INLET AND OUTLET

Now target length as 3 mm
COLUMN

SPRING,VALVE HEAD,BASE

BASE BODY,INLET, OUTLET

Now target length as 5mm
COLUMN

SPRING,VALVE HEAD , BASE

BASE BODY,INLET,OUTLET

CONCLUSION
- As the target length(5mm) is larger in comparitive to the lenghths of the surface at the boundaries and at spring , the mesh quality is bad and is not even and uniform in all areas
- For the target length (3mm) the mesh is f=good in large surface phases whereas in narrow boundaries and curve the mesh fails to cover the surface in uniformity and smooth
- Mesh length target as 1mm is the best so far when compared .This is because the shorter mesh elements tends to cover the surface smoothly even in boundaries , curve, spring and at edges .
