Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Objective:- For the given model, check for the geometrical errors and perform geometrical clean up. Set three different target lengths as three different cases and mesh the model.
Aim: To study surface meshing on given geometry, Making three different models with 3 different target lengths.
Procedure:- Importing the given Geometry.
File>Open>Choose the location of the given model>open
Then we do the geometrical cleanup
Tool Bar>Checks>Checks Manager>Geometry Checks>Execute

After executing we can find all the errors in the geometry, so we can work on one by one

SINGLE CONS
This all shows the single con in the geometry, to overcome them we have to fill them before meshing
To fill the holes we can use New command and fil hole in which we can create a new face on the holes in the model.

Following the same procedure to Fix all the hole useing Fill hole and Face>new Command.

In the above image one face is overlape .To clear this error delete the overlape face by useing the Delete command.
After clearing single con and overlap error assigning new PID’s to the different parts of the model.

Then we have to clear all the intersection part in the given model By useing the intersect command. Topo>Face> intersect

Meshing:- To mesh the given geometry we will provide the target length as 1mm, 3mm & 5mm one by one.
Case-1
Target length 5mm
Minimum length = 4.5mm
Maximum length = 5.5mm

In the above case we can see that quality of the mesh is not good as well, but it has managed to capture the geometry of the body and Valve head but The spring not capture properly. As the element size is much greater than the dimensions of the spring, the mesh is unable to capture the surface of the spring.
Case-2
Target length = 3mm
Minimum length = 2mm
Maximum length = 3.3mm

In the above case it can be seen that there is good meshing of Body and Valve Head, but the quality of mesh of spring is not good as that of the body.
Case-3
Target length = 1mm
Minimum length = 0.5mm
Maximum length = 1.2mm

Here we can see that the mesh has almost fully captured the all parts of the geometry. The curvature of the valve head and spring has also been captured peoperly. The mesh tried to capture almost most of the curvature of the spring.
Conclusion:-
It is concluded that as the target mesh length increases the quality of the mesh becomes decrease.
