Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Aim
To mesh the given model for three differernt Target length such as 1mm, 3mm and 5mm with element type as Tria and to examine good result based on the meshing process.
Procedure
1. The given model is checked for geometrical errors and topology cleanup is performed accodingly.
2. Model with holes are patched during topo cleanup and it should not have any open surface and the model should be fully
defined without any open part.
3. Using New face options and surface type such as Existing surf, Planar, Fitted and Coons the holes are patched.
4. Using properties PID region is created fro each assembled part of the model. Here the PID region generated for the valve
are: Inlet, Outlet, Body, spring, valve head, column and base surface.
5. Model is meshed under the different cases such that mesh parameters is changed accordingly before meshing
- Target length = 1mm, 3 mm and 5 mm (i.e. 3 cases)
- Element type = Tria.
6. For mesh generation spot mesh is used.
Case : 1
Target Length = 1mm, Element Type = Tria

Case : 2
Target Length = 3mm, Element Type = Tria

Case : 3
Target Length = 5mm, Element Type = Tria

Result
1. The meshed model with 1 mm Target length have more fine mesh compared with 3 mm and 5 mm Target length. It is
because as target length is set to 1 mm the each number of elements divided is more and give fine meshing.
2. The surface of 3 mm and 5 mm looks coarse compared to 1 mm Target length because of number of elements divided is
less and will have coarse mesh and less mesh quality.
3. Mesh quality: Target length 1 mm > Target length 3 mm > Target length 5 mm.
