Week 2 Challenge
QUESTION 1) NET AREA FOR TENSION MEMBER PROBLEM
Aim ::- To calculate the net area of the tension members given in the problem.
Procedure ::- We are claculating the net effective area of the members in which holes are made for rivets/bolts. While calculating the net effective area we have to substract the area of holes made on plate and angles.
We are calculating net effective area by using some standard formulas.

Results ::- Net area of tension member with chain rivet = 400 mm2.
Net area of tension member with zig-zag rivet = 3910 mm2.
Net area of Angles conneted with both legs = 2865mm2.
Net area of the tension member is the remaining area of the plate after substracting area of holes made for bolts/rivets.
QUESTION 2) Sag rod design problem.
Aim ::- To design sag rods supporting purlins to withstand given loads on roof. Sag rods are the thin mid steel round bars which are used to tie purlins on roof truss so that purlins can resist the loading on roof eficiently. Sag rods also helps in keeping purlins in their proper position.

QUESTION 3) Determine section size for given tensile load.
Aim ::- To design a single angle member of 5m length carry axial tensile force of 500.
Procedure ::- Given - tensile load = 500 KN, Length of member = 5m, Yield strength = 350 N/mm2.

Results ::- Tension member is design for 500 KN axial tensile load is ISA 200 X 200 X 15 mm @ 45.9 Kg/m having rmin=39.1mm.
