Week 14 challenge

Butterfly Valve assembly:

The butterfly valve assembly is assembled in NX using various touch and axis align constraints. The individual parts designed are brought into the assembly file and aligned at the required places to form the butterfly valve assembly.

GD and T:

  • The flat surfaces of the butterfly are established as datum A with datum target areas A1, A2, and A3 around the mounting holes of dia 60.
  • The hole is established as datum B by maintaining perpendicularity with datum A
  • The other hole is positioned with datums A and B at MMC and established as datum C.
  • The third hole is positioned with respect to A, B, and C and established as datum D to control the hole position on the other side of the butterfly valve.
  • The holes on the other side of the butterfly valve are controlled with a position tolerance with respective coaxial datums B, C, and D.
  • The flat surface on the outer side of datum A is controlled with a profile tolerance with respect to datum A, B, and C.

Conclusion:

The butterfly valve is designed using NX and applied all the required GD and T details to the assembly. This provided an outlook on how to design a component and apply GD and T based on the functionality and understand the critical requirements of a part or assembly.
