Week 12 - Validation studies of Symmetry BC vs Wedge BC in OpenFOAM vs Analytical H.P equation

Aim : To validate the HP equations with symmetry Boundary conditions

Results :

keeping angle at 10 degrees

validation of Hydro-dynamic length

It has become constant at x = 0.94 m.

analytical value of hydraulic length = 0.94 m.

`Re = (rho*V*D)/mu`

V = 0.125 m/s

Vmax = 2*Vavg = 2*0.125 = 0.25 m/s

numerically, Vmax = 0.216 m/s

fully developed velocity profile

pressure drop

`p1 - p2 = 32*mu*v*L/d^2`

Numerical kinematic pressure drop = 0.047 Pa

Theoretical pressure drop = 0.039 Pa

Shear-stress

analytical shear stress = 0.059 N/m^2

Numerical max - shear stress = 0.061 N/m^2

Results at 25 degree

validation at hydro-dynamic length

at x = 0.2 m

Velocity max = 0.219 m

fully developed flow profile

pressure drop

pressure drop = 0.049 pa

shear stress

shear stress = 0.062 N/m^2

Results at 45 degree

validation at hydro-dynamic length

at x = 0.2 m

Velocity max = 0.222 m

fully developed flow profile

pressure drop

pressure drop = 0.053 pa

shear stress

shear stress = 0.065 N/m^2

Final Table

Conclusion:

1. As the angle increases, velocity profile becomes more accurate and thus losses reduces.

2. As the angle increases, error in pressure and shear stress increases.
