Week-11 : Discretization of 3D intake manifold using GEM-3D
Aim
Explore the single cylinder DI with discretization length of 0.1mm in intake runner and compare it with default case.
Layout

Addition of Discritization length as parameters

Case Setup

Case 1 timing

Case 2 timing

Performance Parameters

Conclusion:
There is no much difference in parameters even after changing the discritization length to 0.1mm, which indicates we can use the default value without much error
Exploring tutorial 2-Building intake manifold from STL Model
Importing the 3D file from the example

Removal of Inlet and Outlet: This is done to facilitate the incoming and outgoing of mixture as initially in the STL file it is closed

Using 3D point Cutting Tool

Converting the shape into component

Changing the flow direction if wrong: Here the default direction is comes out to be right

Addition of Costum connection: We selected orifice here

Addition of external costum connection

Divide pipe section with areas

Cutting another part of that section to make a different part out of it

Converting it into flow split

Cutting the planum

Conversion of plenum into flow split

Residual Part, after hiding the rest

Dividing plenum for individual opening , combining middle both into single unit

Final flow split after unhiding all the hidden component

Result after discritizing all the component from 3D to 1D

Conclusion:
We made a 1D out of 3D which shows that it can be made with some effort but it will save lots of computation time after it is done.
