Week 8 - Simulation of a backward facing step in OpenFOAM
Objective:-
Simulation of an incompressible-laminar-vicous flow through the backward facing step geometry and based on that perform two case studies:
- Using GF=1
- Using GF=0.2
Mesh Specification:-
- Cells in X- direction=200
- Cells in Y- direction=20
Command for the below code:
- tut
- ls
- cd incompressble
- ls
- cd cavity
- ls
- cp -r cavity $FOAM_RUN/cavity_new
- run
- ls
- cd cavity_new
- ls
- cd cavity
- ls
- cd system
- ls
- gedit blockMeshDict

Meshgrid (before using grading factor)
Pressure contour(after using grading factor)

Velocity contour(after using grading factor)

Conclusion:-
By changing the grading factor from 1 to 0.2 we can observe the finer mesh ad the edges and hence the more accurate results
Although fier grading increases execusion time but if we are desiring to get more accuracy in our result we have to make the grade finer to get proper result
