Week 11 Challenge
AIM:
Calculate the temperature load for the RC bridge with M40 grade to be constructed in Delhi.
GIVEN:
- The Span of the bridge is 9 m.
- The Box girder dimension is 1500 x 1500 with a web thickness of 300mm.
- The diameter of the circular pier is 2.5m
- The width of Deck slab is 7m and width of piercap is 6m.
- The Thickness of Deck slab is 550mm.
PROCEDURE:
1.First creat a node

2.To select a node use translation reputing command one step 9m spacing and link step

3.Select the beam to use reputing command 2 steps 2m spacing and link steps

4.To select the center nodes use reputing command Y dirction -10m spacing and link staps

5.The piers are fixed supports

6.To creat a plate 0.5m spacing and select the plate 17 steps 0.5m spacing X direction

7.Select the all plats 7 steps 0.5m spacing Z direction

8.Candiliver supports 1.5m Z direction

9.pier size is 2.5m

10.Cross beams are 1m X 1m

11.The girders are 1m X 0.7

12.Plats size is 0.550m thickness

CALCULATION:
- The maximum temperature in the location as per IRC 6 isotherm at location = 47.5 degree
- The minimum temperature in the location as per IRC 6 isotherm at location = 5.60 degree
Effective temperature difference
= ( 47.5 - 5.60 )/2 + 10
= 30.95 kN/m2
Stress due to temperature = Alpha X Del T X E
= 11.27 X 10^-6 X 30.95 X 5000(40)^(1/2)
= 11.03 kN/m2
Hence the stress are restricted to 3 kN/m2
Temperature at bottom = ( 2.1/17.8 ) 47.5
= 5.60 degree
Temperature at top = 47.5 degree
= 47.5 - 5.60
= 41.90
13.Load cases details > add > Teaperature loads

14.Temperature load > add > temperature > axial elongination 30, top to bottom 41.90
