Week 11 Car Crash simulation
AIM: The main aim of this week challenge is to perform a explicit dynamic simulation of a car crashing into the wall. The analysis is performed for three cases for different thickness of body panel. Then compare the results of the stress, strain and deformation plots with a detailed explanation for the plots.
PROCEDURE:
step 1: Open the ansys workbench module and select the transient structural analysis.
step 2: Now open the engineering data and add stainless steel non alloy material.
step 3: Right click the geomentry tab and select import geomentry --> browse --> select the file --> open.
step 4: Now open the geomentry in mechanical modeller.

step 5: Now assign the material for car body.

step 6: Now mesh the component.

step 7: Delete the existing contact and create an body interaction between the wall and car
step 8: Now create a symmentry region for both the wall and car body.

step 9: Now cange the analysis settings.

step 10: Now apply the necessary boundary conditions.

step 11: Now run the simulation.
step 12: Now include the total deformation,Equivalent stress and strain in output files.
step 13: Now parametrize the body thickness along with total deformation and equivalent stress.
step 14: Now give addition design points of .5mm and .7mm thickness of body panel and evaluate the design points.

CONCLUSION:
| body thickness | Equivalent stress | Total deformation | Plastic strain | |||
| min | max | min | max | min | max | |
| 0.3 | 0 | 3306.234 | 0 | 1041.407 | 0 | 0.02837 |
| 0.5 | 0 | 3740.104 | 0 | 1038.202 | 0 | 0.0378 |
| 0.7 | 0 | 3493.996 | 0 | 1035.2 | 0 | 0.03182 |
Based on the above result we can infer that the equivalent stress is maximum in case 2 than the other two cases. The maximum stress point is same for case 2 and case 3 but the maximum stress point is different for case 1.
The total deformation is maximum for case 1 and the total deformation is minimum for case 3 but in all the three cases the total deformation are almost the same for all the cases. The plastic deformation is also maximum in case 2 but it is minium in case 1.
