Challenge

Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Title: Car Body frontal crash Explicit dynamic simulation

Objective:

For this challenge, you will have to perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body. You need to apply the same conditions as mentioned in the video that corresponds to this challenge.Analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model.

Analysis:

1. Material of Car body is assigned with Stainless steel NL and Wall is assigned with Structural steel.

2. Thickness should be given to Car body and select parametric study for that.

3. Delete contacts as we are not intrested in this study.

4.Meshing is done keeping default settings and making useless faces course with face sizing option.

5.Fixed support is given to car body.

6.Displacement of 500 mm is given to wall.

7.End time for the analysis is 0.001 sec.

8.Simulation is carried out and results are summerised below.

Results:

Case1: Thickness of car body = 0.3mm

Case2: Thickness of car body = 0.5mm

Case3: Thickness of car body = 0.7mm

Results are tabulated below as per simulation:

Conclusions:

1. As the thickness of car body increases Max Equivalent stress decreases as per table above.

2. As the thickness of car body increases Max total deformation decreases as per above table.
