Week 10 Challenge
Q1. Purlin & Girts number determination
Given data :
Rafter span = 50 m
Bay spacing = 8 m
Roof slope = 1 in 10
Height of column = 12 m
Brick wall height = 2 m
Purlin spacing = 1.2 m
Girt spacing = 1.5 m
Frame designed according to the dimensions specified.

Number of purlins on one side of the frame = Length / Spacing + 1
= 25 / 1.2 + 1
~ 22 purlins on one side
Therefore total number of purlins be = 22 X 2 = 44 PURLINS
Number of grits on one side of the frame = Length / Spacing + 1
Length = column height - brickwall height
= 12-2
= 10 , required length
Number of grits = 10 / 1.5 + 1
~ 8 purlins on one side
Therefore total number of purlins be = 8 X 2 = 16 GRITS

Q2) Taper the beam according to BMD envelope
Given a stadd file.
Analysis is run and utilization ratio of the structural members are reported.

Left column - 0.634
right column - 0.598
Middle column - 0.863
Left beam - 0.866
Right beam - 0.866
Sections are being optimized using tapered sections as per BMD and each member is utilized upto 90% .
Left column - 0.908
right column - 0.946
Middle column - 0.943
Left beam - 0.954
Right beam - 0.903
Bending moment diagram for the tapered section is given as.

Q3) Determining Wind load
Given data : An Industrial building of plan dimension 10m x 5m
wall opening as 15 %
Bay spacing = 2.5m
Height = 6m
As per IS 875 Part 3 :2015
Basic wind speed = 50m/s
Basic frame is designed with support conditions and given dimensions of the building

Q4 ) Determination for support reactions
Given data:
Mono sloped structure , fully open
Slope - 20 degree
width 10 m & length 30 m with bay spacing of 6 m
Self Weight factor – 1.1
Roof Sheet loading = 0.5 kN/m2
Purlin load = 6 kN/m2
Live Load on Roof = 1.5 kN/m2
Wind Load on rafter (Pressure) = 2 kN/m2

Frame designed with all properties ans support conditions.
Next step to assign loads as per given conditions.
Loading on the Gable frame is half of the main frame. Load have been multiplied with the bay width in order to arrive loading in KN/m for assigning it on members. Staad fille for refrence is attached.

Run analysis command has been performed successfully with 0 Errors, 1 Warning & 0 Note

Static Load Analysis:

Vertical download forces for various loadin are equal to Upward forces , and Forces on left side are equal to forces on Right side .Thus static equlibrium is maintained.
