Challenge

Week 10 - Challenge 1- Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss)

REPORT: TOOLING AXIS CREATION

OBJECTIVE

tooling axis is the direction in which the mold opens and closes during the manufacturing process . it must ensure that all features of the part can be easily removed from the mold without any undercuts

STEPS

1 DETERMINE THE PRIMARY FACE

created a point using in between command and selected two limiting corner points and the point was created in the middle of the face

a line was created using the point and point is considered as the tooling axis

ensured that the axis is oriented such that the draft angles on al features allow easy removal of the part

2 VERIFICATION

Confirmed the tooling axis by performing a draft analysis to check for negative draft angles or under cuts

DETAILED REPORT: DRAFT ANALYSIS

OBJECTIVE

Draft analysis ensures that all surfaces of the component have sufficient draft angles to allow easy ejection from the mold

STEPS:

1 ACTIVATE DRAFT ANALYSIS

Opened the draft analysis tool in catia

2 SET THE TOOLING AXIS

Select the previously created tooling axis as the reference

3 DEFINE DRAFT ANGLE

3 degree is given for the draft angle for both the pocket and Ribs of screw boss

4 PERFORM THE ANALYSIS

The part is colour coded to indicate the following

GREEN: Surface with sufficient draft

RED : Negative draft

CONCLUSION

The tooling axis creation and draft analysis for the component were succesfully performed
