Challenge

Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge

Aim: To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket using 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet.

Setup: We begin by assigning the bucket with a material for each case:

  1. Al 1100-O
  2. MAGNESIUM
  3. Steel 1006

We proceed to deleting any pre-existing contacts and then we move onto meshing. Here we provide a face sizing of 50mm to the outer surface of the bucket and a body sizing of 35mm to the bullet.

We then assign the end time as 0.01s and establish a fixed support to the open edge of the bucket and a velocity of 139000 mm/s to the bullet.

Results:

Total Deformation(mm)

Equivalent Stress (MPa)

Al1100-O

97.202

MAGNESIUM

131.32
