Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Case 1: Total deformation and Max stress

Case 2: Total Deformation and Max stress

In both the cases, the deformation and the max stress are almost the same.
From an analysis standpoint i would prefer model from case 1 because the stress concentration factor is low when compared to model from case 2. This means that the formation of crack is much faster in case 2 than case 1 keeping the load constant. Also crack propagation in case 2 is easier due to the high stress concentration factor. Thus the case 2 model fractures faster than case 1 model over time.
It is difficult to say the preference from a manufacturing standpoint because the use of the beams has not been mentioned.
Report: From the cases(using the images abvove as reference) common inferences can be made. The max deformation is along the side along which the load is applied. The deformation gradually decreases towards the fixed end where it is 0. The values hence prove that the conditions applied to the beam is valid and correct. In case of max stress developed in the model, the values are almost the same. The max stress experienced is in the inner surface of the holes where stress concentration occurs. As the distance from the hole increases the stress developed decreases.
