Challenge

Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

  • Simulation is performed for case-1 and case-2.
  • Material used is structural still with E=200GPa and Yield strength=250MPa and Ultimate stress=460MPa.
  • Simulation is carried out at root temperature.
  • Results for case-1: Deformation: 0.00027mm & stresses: 0.60MPa

Results for case-2: Deformation=0.00029mm, Stress=0.57MPa

1. From design point of view, both designs looks ok as there is no significant difference between both cases by oberving stress and deformations.

2. Manufacturing point of view, with case-1, chances of stress concentration i.e. localized high stresses due to irregularies pressense in ractangular bar and abrupt change in cross section. It may created high stress with misue or high loading.

So, manufacturing point of view case-2 is feasible.
