Week 1 Spur Gear Challenge
Procedure:
- Open the Workbench then Choose the materials 1. Cast Iron Ductile, 2.Corbon Steel, 3. Bronse
- Open the Geometry and import the spur gear which you provide file.
- Open the model in spaceclaim the close.
- Open the model and edit the Geometry by the mechanical GUI.
- Rename the Gears as RIGHT and LEFT and assign the material as cast iron.
Contacts:

- Open the connection then open the contats. select the faces for left and right gears. In our case we have 13 teeth so 26 face each gear. select all the contacts.
- Select a type as frictional. because of the rtation gear.
- Select the behaviour as symmetric and formulation as augumented legrange.
- Open the geometry modification and select the interface treatment as adjust to touch, because of the rotational gear.
MESH:
- Use a 1 mm mesh sizing.

Joints:

- Select the connection type body to ground.
- Select the inner faces of the drive and driven gears and create the revolute joint with the Z axis by selectig the joints.
- Give the drive gear as rotation and driven gear as momentum.
Boundary Conditions:
we are going to find the stress and desormation of the gears for the 180 degree rotation.
- No of steps- 6
- Auto time stepping - Program Controlled
- Defined by TIME
SOLUTION:
SELECT:
- Equelent Stress.
- Total Deformation.
CASE 1: CAST IRON
CASE 2: CORBON STEEL
CASE 3: BRONSE
All the results are attached along this report.
Three materials are have their own mechanical properties..
- Cast iron material is a good vibration adaptor and mostly it is used in the lathe gear transmission system.
- Carbon steels are widly used in the big gear boxes.
- bronse ia a expensive material compared to others and it is used to worm gear boxes. it is not suitable for the heavyoperations. because it will easily damage while giving load.
