Week 1 Spur Gear Challenge
OBJECTIVE:
To perform a spur gear simulation for 3 different materials of gear and analyze the results.
METHODOLOGY:
- First add the materials fromm the material library to the engineering data
- import the geometry and assaign the material to the geometry.

- define the contact between the gear and give the joints to each gear.

- mesh the geometry and perform the face sizing on the tooth surface for good results.

- perform the analysis in 6 steps and give the joint load and joint moment to the gears in the form of tabular data.

- run the simulation and analyse the results for different materials.
CASE 1: cast iron

CASE 2:cast steel

CASE 3:bronze cast

| material | equivalent stress(Mpa) | total deformation(mm) | stress intensity(Mpa) |
| cast iron(ductile) | 647.16 | 30 | 512.14 |
| cast steel | 702.52 | 30 | 503.13 |
| bronze cast | 561.04 | 30 | 462.63 |
STRESS INTENSITY : it measures the stress concentration at a region where the crack is likely to form.
CONCLUSION:
from the above data we can conclude that bronze cast material shows better stress results and can withstand more load compared to the other two materials.
