Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

case deformation max stress developed
1 0.0002748mm 0.60642Mpa
2 0.00029701mm 0.58623Mpa

From the analysis point of view the plate with more cut out holes shows the less maximum stress due to the reduction in overall stress concentraion hence it can withstand more load compared to plate with single hole.

from the manufacturing point of view plate with 3 holes machining is done by fixturing the plate and while making second hole the drilling force acting on the plate might cause stress on the big hole which may leads to crack formation if proper holding device is not used. Moreover the process requires more machining time and activities such as finishing ,tolerance must be taken in to consideration compared to plate with single hole. Hence plate with single hole can be selected.
