OBJECTIVE
Model a butterfly valve from scratch for the dimensions provided in the figure in design modeller.
INITIAL STUDY
Butterfly valves belong to quarter-turn rotational motion valves family and used primarily to stop, regulate, or start the flow. The term “butterfly” in a butterfly valve is actually a disk that is connected to a rod. When this rod rotates the disk by 90° the butterfly valve opens or closes. Butterfly valves are popular in industry because of their lightweight, fast operation, and low costs. These valves use handles, gears, or automatic actuators for operation as per the requirement.
The use of Butterfly valves is broad and wide. Some typical applications of butterfly valves are
PROCEDURE
1.The CAD file of the specified butterfly valve is given ,take out the dimensions of the specified drawing and a bottop to top approach is followed to model the given valve.
2.First the bottom plate was created of the dimensions below as given below,The extrude option was used to create the model and then chamfer option was used to chamfer the edges. The holes were created from the main part dimensions at angle 120 degrees apart.
Figure 1: Bottom plate
3.Now the main body was designed as per the dimensions given. Here also extrude option was used to extrude the model. And the model is drawn by creating a plane on the top of the bottom plate. And the cut option in extrude was used to create holes.
Mirror option was also used to create the symmetrical parts in the main body.
Figure 2: Main body
4.Now the top portion is designed with the sketch option on the the top plane of the main body and then extruded. The nuts are also designed using revolve option .The top portion designed is attached along with.
5.Finally the shaft inside is also attached.
6.The final model of the butterfl valve made looks like this as below:
RESULT
The model was prepared using design modeller in Ansys 2020 R1 version and the required model was created.
