Write the steps involved to upload a .std file through web mail?

• Open STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition Software
• Go to Share option left side on the home interface
• Share part will open then switch from project wise to send mail and browse the .std project/file
• After that click on send mail

Name the different materials that can be designed using STAAD Pro.

• Concrete
• Steel
• Aluminium
• Timber
• Composite Sections

Is it possible to capture images in STAAD Pro? If yes how?

• YES! We can take pictures of models and structural results in staad pro
• Go to Utilities, from the Tools tab there is option of Take Picture
• Click on that icon and specify the name and save

Name the three ways by which you can create a model.

Staad allows you to create three primary types of models to work on that are listed as follows:

• Analytical Model
• Physical Model
• Building Model

Write the steps followed to assign properties in a model.

• Go to the Properties tab, right side will open the dialog box for the same
• Click on Define, choose the shape of structure and specify material
• Click the Assignment method based on your preference like use cursor/assign to view
• From this method we can assign the properties

How will you generate different views for a model? State the steps involved.

• From Views tab go to Tool panel
• Several types of cubes visible in that
• From these cubes we can define the view of the modal like 3d isometric, top, side, front and back view.

Explain the procedure to define a “Simply Supported” condition in STAAD Pro

• Go to the Support tab, right side will open the dialog box for the same
• Click on Create, choose the type of support as Pinned and click on Add
• From the assignment method we can assign the support based on our preference like use cursor/assign to view
• From this method we defined the support condition as a simply supported

Describe the term “multi-material design” of STAAD Pro.

In buildings has different types of material like timber, steel, aluminium, concrete etc which is used for different purpose. The term multi-material design is typically used to define the structure that is designed by implementing more than one structural material.

Name the structure systems in STAAD Pro? Explain each system?

1. Space
2. Plane
3. Frame
4. Truss

All of these we can define the in geometry, loading, deformation and joints

1. Space has a 3D, so that it can be X,Y & Z plane in geometry, loading and deformation. Any kind of the joints and restrain can be given to the modal i.e., assign as a space.
2. Plane the geometry is majorly in 2D accordingly the loading and deformation are also in the 2D plane i.e., mostly X&Y plane and any type of joints can be assigned here in the plane structural system
3. Frame also 2 dimensional in nature the only changes that the loading is perpendicular to X&Z and accordingly the deformation is also perpendicular again here any kind of joints can be assigned to the frame structural system
4. Truss geometry can be in any direction. the truss can take only axial load and it cannot have any bending or shear so the geometry, loading and deformation can all be in all 3 planes but when it comes to a joint or restraint it can only take a Pinned restrain where in the translational movement is the restricted one but the moment is release.

Explain the coordinate system adopted in STAAD Pro software.

• Global axis and local axis coordinate system adopted in staad pro which is a three-dimensional analysis system
• In global axis X,Y&Z coordinate are fixed and not variable
• In local axis X,Y&Z coordinate is variable and depends on member orientation

Elaborate on DBR and its uses.

Design Basis Report (DBR) is basically a document that has certain data regarding the structure of the project. It helps you to understand where the project is located, who the client is and what is the general specification of the project. It also gives you the data i.e., considered while designing a building. This data comprises the specifications of the building. It gives you the materials considered for the building and the material properties.

Uses of DBR

• If we consider steel building so, it gives you what kind of prestress or post stress tendons are going to be installed in the element.
• It’s also to specify the loading conditions that have been considered for the building and it gives you the sample calculations for the loading.
• It has a general arrangement drawing. It can also have the general arrangement to column arrangement drawing of the building so that it will be easier for you to coordinate all this data with respect to the project.
• It must also give you the assumption and specifications.
• The other main advantage of DBR is when it comes to project planning it helps to avoid scope creep.

Explain the different types of analysis options in STAAD pro.

1. Perform analysis
2. Linear elastic analysis
3. P-Delta analysis
4. Pushover analysis
5. Buckling analysis

Explain the difference between Fixed and Fixed But conditions.

• In the Fixed support condition, the translational and rotational movement are restraint means end condition where all degrees of freedom are restricted in the horizontal, vertical and lateral movement
• Where in the fixed but condition we are not restricted in degrees of freedom is a customized end condition where you can release some of the required degrees of freedom.

Practical part by using software

1. Create a STAAD Model with the following Specification
   a. A beam of span 16m
   b. Support: Fixed on one end and Roller support (Horizontal) on the other end
   c. A point load of 50 kN at the mid-point
   d. Draw SFD and BMD using software

Procedure:

STEP 1) Creating Modal

• Open STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition Software
• Go to New option left side on the home interface
• Specify the file name, location, unit and modal type
• Click on Create, modal user interface will open
• Now, I can create beam in geometry

STEP 2) Creating Beam

• In the geometry, I have created 2 Nodese., node 1 in X,Y&Z=0 and node 2 in X=16 , Y&Z= 0
• Select Add Beam from the ribbon Beam
• Click on 1^st node and 2^nd node for beam creation
• Click on beam property dialog box for highlighting the beam

STEP 3) Define Property of Structure

• Goto Properties tab, click on Define
• Select shape of structure, provide dimension
• Select material of structure as a Concrete and add
• Click on Assign to View and press Yes it will visible

STEP 4) Assigning Support

• Goto Support tab, click on Create
• Add Fixed support and horizontal roller support i.e., Fixed But
• By the help of Use Cursor to Assign, place one by one supports in structure
• Support is visible in the structure

STEP 5) Loading Assignment

• Goto Loading tab, Loading and Definition dialog box will open in right side
• Select Load Case Detail and Add them as a Load Case 1 and loading type None
• Then select Load Case 1 and again press on Add a new dialog box will open
• Click on Member Load and choose Concentrated Force, put value and add them
• Now select the added load and assign into the beam

STEP 6) Run Analysis

• Goto Analysis tab, click on Analysis Command which is left side in the ribbon
• Analysis print command dialog box will open with perform analysis tab
• By default, it is on No Print option, so that simply click on add
• Press the Run Analysis button from the ribbon and check the result
• In the result there is no warning, no error hence output is OK

STEP 7) Draw SFD and BMD Diagram

• Click on Post Processing which is left side in the workflow
• Click on Load Case 1 and apply from the opened dialog box
• Displacement results is visible
• Click on Beam Result tab
• For SFD click on FX and FY from the ribbon
• Similarly for BMD click on MZ
