Week 1 Challenge

AIM:

To calculate the various Dead Load of the Box Girder and to apply the given loads in STAAD Pro and perform analysis.

TO FIND:

  1. To calculate the Self Weight of Deck Slab.
  2. To calculate the Self Weight of Pier.
  3. To calculate the Self Weight of Box Girder.

PROCEDURE :

i. Self Weight of Deck Slab.

Width of Bridge Deck=10.2

Thickness of Bridge Deck=250mm

Unit Weight of Concrete=25KN/m^3.

Self Weight of Deck Slab=Width X Thickness X Unit Weight

=10.2*0.25*25

=63.75KN/m

ii. Self Weight of Pier= Area X Height X Unit weight.

Assume Height of the Pier=6m

Area of Pier=(π/4)d^2

Diameter of Pier=2.5m

=(π/4)*2.5^2

=4.9087m^2

Self Weight of Pier=4.9087*6*25

=736.31KN/m

iii. Self Weight of Box Girder=Area X Unit Weight.

Area =6.46645m^2.

Self Weight of Box Girder = 6.46645m^2*25KN/m^3

= 161.66125KN/m.

Total Dead Load=Self Weight of Deck Slab+ Self Weight of Pier+ Self Weight of Box Girder

=63.75KN/m+736.31KN/m+ 161.66125KN/m

=961.72125KN/m.

This load is applied in the superstructure as UDL(Uniformly Distributed Load).

The given UDL load is applied in the Staad pro.

RESULT:

The results are obtained from Staad pro and noted in the Excel Sheet and attached in the answer sheet.
