Challenge

Usage of Collaborate tool in REVIT

1) Open an architectural template. Using the Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Aim:

To set the project base point and project shared coordinates for the project in architectural template.

Introduction:

Project shared coordinates is used to relocate the model to true north by specifying coordinates for North/South, East/West and Elavation. Project base point is the reference point of the model.

Procedure:

  • Open Revit software.
  • Open new project with 'Architectural template'
  • Create grids in longitudinal and transverse direction.
  • By using grids option under architecture tab datum pannel.

  • Dropdown the corrdinates under manage tab
  • Select specify coordinates points.
  • Select the grids and set the Shared coordinates.
  • For longitudinal direction grid set East/West as 0.
  • For transverse direction grid set North/South as 0.

  • Open the visiblity graphics settings.
  • Enable the project base point option under the site category.

  • Move the project base point to the Intersection point of the grid created.

Result:

The Project base point and project shared coordinates are setted for the project in architecture template.

2) Open another new file but with a structural template. Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model. Copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model.

Aim:

To set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project in structural template.

Introduction:

Project shared coordinates is used to relocate the model to true north by specifying coordinates for North/South, East/West and Elavation. Project base point is the reference point of the model.

Procedure:

  • Open new project with 'structural template'
  • Create grids in longitudinal and transverse direction.
  • By using grids option under structure tab datum pannel.
  • Dropdown the corrdinates under manage tab
  • Select specify coordinates points.

  • Select the grids and set the Shared coordinates.
  • For transverse direction grid set East/West as 0.
  • For longitudinal direction grid set North/South as 0.

  • Open the visiblity graphics settings.
  • Enable the project base point option under the site category.
  • Move the project base point to the Intersection point of the grid created.

Result:

The Project base point and project shared coordinates are setted for the project in structural template.

3) Re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model (enabling simultaneous working on the model)

Aim:

To make the architectural model as a central model.

Introduction:

The central model is the master project file for a workshared project. The central model stores the current ownership information for all elements in the project, and acts as the distribution point for all changes published to the file.

Procedure:

  • Re-open the architectrural file.
  • Select collaborate under collaborate tab.

  • Once click collaborate.
  • It will ask within your network or in the cloud.
  • Select within your network.
  • Click ok.

  • After collaborate save the project once again.
  • This time the project is saved as a central model.

Result:

The architectural model is saved as a central model.

4) Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2.

Aim:

To create the grids longitudinal and transverse pattern.

Introduction:

Grids are annotation elements that helps organize the design and also act as a reference for placing columns, creating walls.

Procedure:

  • Re-open the architectrural file as a 'create new local'

  • Select grids under architecture tab datum pannel.

  • Set the offset value as 10'
  • Create the langitudinal and transverse grids.

Result:

The grids in longitudinal and transverse pattern is created.

5) Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Aim:

To synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Introduction:

Synchronize is used to make the changes that made in the local file that refletcs to the central file.

Procedure:

  • Dropdown the synchronize with central under collaborate tab.
  • Select Synchronize and modify settings.

  • Select the path of the file to synchronize.
  • Click ok.

Result:

The changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model is synchronized.

6) Open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Aim:

To save the structural model as a central file using collaborate tools.

Introduction:

The central model is the master project file for a workshared project. The central model stores the current ownership information for all elements in the project, and acts as the distribution point for all changes published to the file.

Procedure:

  • Re-open the structural file.
  • Select collaborate under collaborate tab.

  • Once click collaborate.
  • It will ask within your network or in the cloud.
  • Select within your network.
  • Click ok.

  • After collaborate save the project once again.
  • This time the project is saved as a central model.

Result:

The structural model is saved as a central file using collaborate tools.

7) Under the Collaborate tab, select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model. See what happens when the copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model.

Aim:

To select the grids and levels from the architectural model and using copy monitor to copy the grids to the structural model.

Introduction:

The copy monitor tool is used to copy elements from a linked model to the current model, and monitor the elements for changes.

Procedure:

  • Open the structural file.
  • Select revit link under the insert tab.

  • Dropdown the copy/monitor under collaborate tab.
  • Select 'select link'

  • Select the inserted architectural link.
  • Select copy option and click multiple.
  • Select all the grids in the linked model.

  • Click finish.
  • To check wether the linked model is copied or not.
  • Open visiblity graphics setting.
  • Uncheck the visibility of revit links.

  • See the model screen the linked model is copied and merged with the host model.

Result:

The grids from the architectural model is copied to the structural model by using copy monitor tool.

8) Create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under the manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file and close all the files.

Aim:

To Create construction template, Save the file as central model and link both the architectural and structural model by using the manage link option.

Introduction:

Save the construction file as a central model and link both the architectural and structural model. The construction template file will act as a combained project.

Procedure:

  • Open the new file as a construction template.
  • Click collaborate unde the collaborate tab.
  • Select share within your network.

  • Save the file and make it as a central model.

  • Select manage links under the manage tab.

  • Add the architectural model and structural model.
  • Click ok.

  • The architectural and structural model is linked with the construction model.

Result:

The construction template is created and saved as a central model. The architectural and structural model is liked with the construction project file by using manage link option.

9) Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links
( Hint: origin to origin, by shared coordinates or by project base point to base point ) to link the models in an appropriate manner.

Aim:

To check the grids from the structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created.

Procedure:

  • Open the construction template created.
  • Check the grids from the architectural and structural model matching in the construction template.
  • Save the model.

Result:

The grids from the structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created is checked and the model is setup for project 2.

10) List a flow chart of a project tree set up in terms of Construction model, Architecture & Structure model, in this exercise and understand how many people can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously.

Construction model is the combained file of both the architecture and the structural file.

By enable work sharing many people from various discipline can work on the same project simultaneously.
