Usage of Collaborate tool in REVIT

    USAGE OF COLLABORATE TOOL IN REVIT

Introduction:

Revit proides several different ways to collborate with team members who are using the sofware.

• Several mutiple model can be linked together, allowing team members to work in a context.
• Through work sharing, users on same local area network (LAN) can work together in the same revit model.
• When collaboration needs to occur among users who are not in same geographic location, Revit cloud worksharing can be used.
  • Revit connect offices who share a network but are not in the same geographic location.
  • Revit cloud worksharing is a cloud based service that allows any revit user inside or outside a network to collaborate on a Revit model.

When there is a need to combine multiple models and files in a single project, shared coordinates can be used to establish the position of the files in relation to each other.

To establish a common coordinateposition and then share that position between files, Acquire coordinates tool can be used.

1. 

Aim:

To set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Procedure:

To set the project shared coordinates:

• Open the Revit software and open the architectural template.
• Now, open the manage tab of the ribbon and go to coordinate option in the project location.

• Now, select project coodinates and in that choose specify coordinates at a point.
• Now, select either walls one by one.

• Make north south and east west values of the coordinates 0 and then click ok.

• Hence, project shared coordinates are set.

To set project base point:

• For this, go to architectural tab.
• In datum panel, choose grids.
• Then draw the base grids.

• Hence, base grids have been developed.

Aim:

To open a new file with a structural template and using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model and copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model.

Procedure:

• Open a  new file with structural template.

• Now, go to Architecture tab and in the datum panel, choose grid and draw the base grids as done in the architectural model.
• Go to manage tab of the ribbon and select project coordinates and then set the shared coordinates same as the architectural model.

• Make both east west and north south coordinates 0.

• Hence, project parameters are created in structural model.

Aim:

To use the tools under the Collaborate tab to make the architectural model a central model (enabling simultaneous working on the model).

Procedure:

• Open the architectural model.
• Go to collaborate tab of the ribbon.

• Choose collaborate option.
• Then select within your network.

• Now, save the file as central model.

• Hence the model is collaborated and is saved as a central file.

Aim:

To create the grids in longitudinal and transverse pattern for the project.

Procedure:

• Go to architectural tab of the ribbon.
• Select grids in the datum panel.
• Then draw the longitudinal and transverse grids and name it accordingly. (i.e, for longitudinal grids: 1-10 starting from right side; similarly for transverse grids: A-B starting from top).

• Hence, all the grids have been created.

Aim: 

To synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Procedure:

• Go to collaborate tab of the ribbon.
• Choose Sychorinise with central option in the synchronise panel. 

• Then select synchronise and modify settings and then click ok.

• Hence, it is synchronized.

Aim:

To open the structural model and to use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Procedure:

• Open the structural model.
• Now, go to collaborate tab of the ribbon.
• Choose the collaboate option.

• Hence, it is collaborted. Now, save the file as central file.

• Hence, saved as central file.

Aim:

To select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor copy the grids to the structural model.

Procedure:

• Initially, go to architectural model which is not the central model..

• Now, open the structural model and go to insert tab.
• In that, choose revit link.

• Or through manage links option in insert also, we can add the revit link.

• Then the link that we choose will be inserted i.e the architectural model link.

• Presently this link is just added, this can be checked by going to visibility graphics.
• Now, we have to copy this elements to the structural template.
• For this, go to collaborate tab of the ribbon and go to copy/monitor, choose select link option.

• Now, select the link in the screen and then click copy and then check multiple.

• Now, select the grids, both longitudinal and transverse.
• Then click finish, provided at the bottom and after that again click finish in copy/monitor tab.

• Hence, the link is copied completely.

8. 

Aim:

To create another new file with a construction template and save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model and link both the files. 

Procedure:

• Initially, open the revit software.
• Go to New tab, and open a new Construction template.

• Now, go to collaborate tab --> Collaborate --> To save it as the central model.

• Now, go to manage tabs --> Manage links -->Add both architectural and structural links.

• Now, both these links have been just added to the construction model. 
• Now, we have to copy this model to this template.
• For this, go to copy/monitor in the collaborate tab.

• Choose select link in the drop down and select the both the links visible in the screen, individually.
• Then copy both the links to construction template.

• Select the elements and click finish.

• Hence, both the architectural and structural templaate have been linked to the construction template.

Aim:

To check whether the grids from the structural and architectural model matches in the construction template created.

Procedure:

• Here, it is clearly visible that the architectural and structural template matches thoroughly in the construction template created. Hence, my challenge is set for the project 2.

Number of people that can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously:

Revit allows multiple users to work simultaneously on one revit project. This can be achieved through worksharing. Using linked elements, project elements are separated into individually managed models that can be linked together. Members from various disciplines can work together in a revit project like: 

• Architects
• Structural engineers.
• MEP engineers i.e, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Engineers.
• HVAC engineers i.e Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning

The number of people working simultaneously may depend upon the type of project being done.
