Underbody Coating

UNDER BODY COATING:-It is a process of painting of an automobile under the body to protect the automobile from rusting.When we buy the automobile ,it has gassy appearance and polished surface but as years passes it worns out due to rusting.It happens when a metal reacts with oxygen in the presence of water and moistures.Our automobile body is mainly manufactured by the iron metal.The iron metal reacts with air and water easily when it is exposed to the air and get rusting.At the time of rusting in becomes iron oxide and it is due to redox reaction between oxygen and iron in an environment containing water. The rusting of iron is characterized by the formation of a layer of a red, flaky substance that easily crumbles into a powder.Factors that affects the rusting of iron are moisture, acid ,salt and impurity presence in the environment.Therefore we should do under body coating of our automobile that does not let the part of automobile contact with environment .

At the time buying of an automobile ,it is not neccessary to pain or under body coating because painting from respective company is well and good for last 3 to 4 years but in between we have to look or observe our automobile whether it is paint out or not due to over running, or sometimes stone may piles the paint by hitting, or may be slides contacts with speed breakers and wear out the paints.Our automobile's painting may be worn out when it gets accident or when runs continually on surface like water or rainy weather.Due to all of these we should observes our automobile continually and suggest to pain to the under body

STEPS OF UNDER BODY COATING

1.Lift up the car by screw jack at proper height and fix it with no movement of body.

2.Mobe any dust particles, sticking plastics,stone,etc before washing.

3.Now give pressurize water jet to the under body to wash out all dirt particles.

4.Let all water droplets drop down to dry up soon.

5.Move up by a clean piece of clothes to dry up that can paint easily.

6.After proper cleaning ,coating starts with good paints that can prevent from corrosion of metal body.

PURPOSE OF UNDER BODY COATING

• PROTECT AGAINST CORROSION:-The main purpose of under body coating of an automobile is to prevent the automobile from corrosion and rusting.It is not only to coating at coastal region but also at plain area. In rainy season coating plays a vital role because metallic part of automobile body maximum time contact with water and air is already present there, so rust fast.On the road surface sometimes stones hit the under body which may pile up the body. So, a thick coating is must.
• PREVENT FROM STONE CHIP:-In India our road has pathole and uneven surface ,when a car crosses over the road it crumbles and some stones hit the under body that can damage the body.So to prevent we paint.
• PROTECT VITAL COMPONENTS:-We take under body coating because we cannot lose the vital component of our automobile which is in a underneath like engine, battery, gear box,etc. These all parts are so costly to buy therefore we protect it from rusting and hitting from stone.
• KEEP THE VALUE:-By coating we can keep our automobile maintained which loooks clean and shinning. It increases the values our automobile beacuse it mainly prevents to crode the body part and looks new.

TYPES OF UNDER BODY COATING

1.DRIP OIL SPRAY:-

It continue to drip after the application of oil and it can last for approximately 48 hours. This is the most recomonded method of body coating.

2.ELECTRONIC METHOD:-

This device use small magnitude of electric current to prevent corrosion and it is install under the body by dealer.

3.UNDERCOATING:-

In this method we use spray jet of paint to paint the under body of the automobile and preserve the body from moisture contact.

ADVANTAGES

• Underbody coating prevents the automobile body from corrosion and rusting.
• It increases the life of mettalic part of body.
• It reduces friction between two mating parts.
• It gives shinning surfaces to the automobile body

DISADVANTAGES

• It cannot prevent from damages which is already corroded.
• It increases the weight of automobile.
• It works best on new car.
• It should apply every 3-5 years of life cycle.
• An undercoating does not improvious the damage the body parts.
