Underbody Coating
Coating Process:- The coating process in the automotive industry generally refers to the painting of the BIW car body. This coating process is either done by robots or through automated conveyor rails. The process that is generally used for the coating process is ED coating.

Electric Discharge Coating or EDC: In this coating process the car body is dipped inside an ED tank and the body is slowly moved inside the ED Tank such that all part of the Body in White is coated i.e. some ED coating is applied to the full body when ions inside the body react with the metal finish surface of the car body and then these ions get discharged on to the car body surface. After that, the car body comes out of the ED tank and is held on the heating furnace such that there are no drops of ED coating left at any edge or hole of the car body. This is so because if any drop is left or the ED coating is not drained properly then assembling the other components to BIW sheet metal of Vehicles is difficult and may cause damage to the paint.
After all the holes are drained the sealing process is followed to cover all holes of the underbody part and then paint is applied to the vehicle for the final finish.
Under Body Coating: Underbody coating process of the vehicle depends on the surface area available to coat. As the greater the surface area the higher the benefit of coating it is for the workmen.
