UNDERBODY COATING

UnderBody Coating is providing extra coating on the vehicle underbody to protect from rust & corrosion. It also protects the internal body panels and frames from moisture and other foreign bodies.

Types of UnderBody Coating:

1) Rubberised UnderCoating: Tar-like substance is infused with solvents & protectants and sprayed onto the surface which acts as a barrier against salt, moisture and other foreign bodies which may lead to rust and corrosion.

Pros: Quick & Easy to apply.

Cons: Takes time to settle on the surface.

2) Polyurethane UnderCoating: This is another type of undercoating which comes in canisters and can be preloaded to application gun. They flow into cracks and seams and protect with unoxidised metal.

Pros: It is little quicker and easier to apply. Sands quickly.

Cons: Requires little surface preparation before applying.

3) Wax/Paraffin Based UnderCoating: This type of undercoating also helps to protect the vehicle underbody from rust and moisture.

Pros: It is one of the cheapest and quickest way to apply undercoating material. Provides base protection to the part.

Cons: It wear off quickly and will need to be stripped and applied atleast once in every year.

4) Asphalt UnderCoating: It contains little amount of rubberised material that sticks firmly and helps to soften noise. Best suitable for lorries, trucks and large vehicles.

Pros: Greater degree of protection when compared to other. Greater durability against rocks, chips and moisture.

Cons: Coating consumption time is little bit higher.

Advantages of UnderCoating:

It minimises the sound from the underneath of the body and results in noiceless experience.

It acts as a heat insulator from the underneath of the body providing comfortable cabin experience.

It does not get chipped away when stone hits from the road and thereby protects from exposure of water.

Disadvantages:

Underbody coating is expensive.

It adds as an additional weight to the body which may affect the vehicle performance.

It wont act on the parts which is already corroded.
