Under body coating:

INTRODUCTION

What is Under body coating?

Underbody coating is noting but coatig or painting the underbody of Car (BIW) or not only BIW but also the silencer.

Why it is to be done?

Underbody coating is necessary for car which protect from its corrosion. Because of this corrosion the entire car gets corroded starting from bottom of the doors

Types:

There 2 major types of underbody coating are wax type and rubber type.

The wax type is coated using sprays. This type of coating gives at least 2 years of warranty.

The rubber type gives 5 years of warranty. In this type the rubber materials are coated in the under body, that gives additional thickness than wax type. But this type coating cannot be coated for silencers. As the silencer have high temperature it gets melted. So, there are specific coating sprays for silencers pipes.

Chemical contains :

This spray contains styrene rubber triblock copolymers.

Process:

Initially that under body or under body sheet is washed thoroughly. It will left for an to get dried. After that the specified spray is spreaded over underbody. After that the mask type screens are setup on the sides of the underbody from doors to prevent the spray spreading. After completing the full coating, it gets dried for one hour or half an hour.

This coating is necessary so as to prevent from its corrosion. During monsoon times the land will be more watery,so there will be contact between the under body and the mud,water,dusts,etc.The under coating is done for a prolonged good life of a car. This is not suggestable for those who changes cars for 1 or 2 years.

Pros:

• Prolonged good life
• Vibration sounds can be reduced
• Corrosion can be controlled

Cons:

• Costly
• Technically well known mechanic is required to do this process
