What is bench marking?
Benchmarking is technique of comparing the ideas used in the other companies or neighbour companies or competitor companies. By comparing these ideas from the other companies the required or target can be identified from this process and required target can be achieved by benchmarking.
For example:
Firstly a car is there in a market, say an example Maruti Suzuki Swift, it is one of the fast moving car in marketing view. So to beat or achieve or to give a tough in this competition segment. Hyundai Grand i10 made several ideas like blue link feature, providing awesome interiors and exteriors and bootspace etc. So, here the company Hyundai made a very strong bench marking process, and achieved and improved some good things than its old model and also Swift.
Problem statement:
Benchmark with presently available cars in the market for the following case.
Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars
Solution:
So, here we are going to compare 4 cars within a budget ranging from 8 lakh to 10 lakh (on road price) based on the requirement of a customer named Mr.Pughazhyendhii.
Here are the four cars where we going to compare:
- Hyundai Aura
- Honda Amaze
- Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire
- TATA Tigor
(Note:Here I’ve chosen all sedan type cars as the customer is fond of big cars)

- Excellent clearance - Despite being a sedan, it's impossible to scrape the underbody
- Hyundai service - Wide network of sales/service/spares, brand's attractive resale value
Cons:
- Quirky rear design - Looks are subjective, but the Aura’s rear portion looks displeasing
- High-speed ride quality - Especially when the car gathers speed, the rear feels bouncy
- Not engaging to drive - Understeers when driven hard around corners, lacks feedback

- Ease of driving - Light controls, superior visibility and a comfortable ride
Cons:
- Fit/finish in some areas - Lower sections of the cabin aren't up to Honda standards
- Features for the price - At the price point, there are some features missing
- Rear headroom - Tall occupants may find the headroom restrictive at the rear

Pros:
- Seats, spacious interiors - Large comfortable seats, ample head/leg/shoulder room
- Ride quality - It offers an absorbent/flat ride quality regardless of the speed
- Smooth powertrains - Refined motor, minimal shift intrusions from the Auto Gear Shift
- Maruti service - Strong sales/service/spares network, exceedingly good resale value
- Proportionate design - The rear portion doesn't end abruptly like other compact sedans.
Cons:
- Not involving to drive - The steering feels vague off the centre, lacks response
- Fit/finish - Isn't segment-leading, not up to the mark lower down in the cabin
- Looks dated - The Dzire has been around for a while and has now begun to show its age.

Conclusion:
As per the customers requirement, the customer either can go for Hyundai Aura or Dzire swift. As they have most common features and the mileage are also overall same in manner. In my advice, he can opt Hyundai Aura as it costs less than dzire in which he can save 80 thousand. Moreover, the Aura looks more attractive than Dzire.
