Underbody Coating

UNDER BODY COATING:-

Underbody coating is used to prevent car body agaist rust & corrosion. This helps in protection from dust and moisture. It also protect from salt rain during mansoon.

UNDER BODY COATING PROCESS:-

1. Pre treatment- It is consists of cleaning the body surface. It remove remaining oil from the stamping process and welding residue through primary liquid dip process of degreasing, conditioning and phsphating. Degreasing solution is compossed of alkalin salt, surfactance and can include caustic soda, tri sodium phosphate and sodium carbonate. The surfactance of types of detergent for emulsifying oil and lubricants on the BIW.
2. Electrodeposition- ED coating provide protection from rust and corrosion. The metal underbody and fram are coated to prevent the corrosion and other area like roof not rust proofed, are not coated the structural metal are primed befor applying additional coating.
3. Rust proof material- Third step in under body coating and sealing using PVC and urethane. The sealing is applied around and inside the door, hood, trunk and onto exterior and interior of metal joint and outer area of back wheel.
4. Primer- It can be water borne, solvent borne or apowder. These are used to improve adhesion between E-coat and top coat , chipping protection, enhance paint apperance and environment compatible with emmision regulations.
5. Top coat- It is consist of two layers- the base coat and clear coat. The base coat provide primary colouring pigment and clear coat provides a protective coating against environmental effect, corrosion and UV light degration unmatch colour retention and smooth finish.

TYPES OF UNDER BODY COATING:-

• Rubberized under body coating- These coating are easy to apply and offer sound cushioning, protection from dust, moisture and dent. The coating are safe even to use on wheel wells and quater pannels.
• Polyurethane under body coating- This type of undercoating is a lit a bit quicker and easy to apply. Its come in conister ready to preload on gun. Always require surface preparation before applying.
• Asphalt based underbody coating- It is used for light commertial vehicles. For vehicle like truck, bus, vans etc. asphals based underbody coating is used for sufficient protection against rock chips and moisture. It is little bit of rubber material that set up firmly and help in reduction noise.

ADVANTAGES OF UNDER BODY COATING:-

• Minimised Sound- to minimised sound from underneath the car .
• Heat Insulation- It insulate the interior of the car from the extream temperature from beneath the car.
• Ant Chipping Property- The coat does not chip when hit by stone.
