Underbody Coating

  • What is underbody coating?

:- Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.

  • In Indian road conditions, a cars underbody is most prone to corrosion. Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car’s underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
  • What happens with a car if underbody is not apply?

Care must be taken while applying underbody coating. This thick rubberized paint if not applied properly, can get into moving mechanical parts and cause premature failure – such as into the U-joint or CV joints in a cars propeller shaft or drive shafts

This is happening with your cars if cars underbody is not coated or not properly coated.

  • Types of underbody coating.
  1. Rubberized Undercoating.
  2. Asphalt-Based Undercoating
  3. PolyurethaneUndercoating
  4. Wax or Paraffin-Based Undercoating
  1. Rubberized Undercoating: -

Rubberized undercoating creates a protective barrier that seals out grit, grime and moisture that could otherwise corrode the metal components. This extra protection is a low-cost measure that can pay off by potentially extending the service life of a vehicle.

  1. Asphalt-Based Undercoating: -

Asphalt Based Undercoating does provide some benefits over Waxed Based Undercoating. They both stick well to most any surfaces and do a great job sealing out moisture, road chemicals and oxygen. ... Finally, Asphalt based products continue to dry out over time causing cracks in the coating surface.

  1. PolyurethaneUndercoating: -

Polyurethane based undercoating is effective and easy to apply, soaking into small seams and cracks in the underside of the vehicle, displacing salt and moisture, and bonding with and protecting the metal. Like rubberized coating, polyurethane undercoating can also be painted over, and even sanded.

  1. Wax or Paraffin-Based Undercoating: -

Paraffin-based undercoating’s have a wax inclusion that makes them stronger than water-based undercoating’s. Paraffin-based undercoating’s can be purchased through an automotive store in spray and paint-on formats. ... Paraffin-based undercoating needs to be replaced at least once a year at the vehicle owner's expense

  • Pro’s and Con’s of Underbody Coatings

  • PRO’s: -
  • It protects your car from various substrates like Dampens sound and vibrations, Corrosion, Impacts, Environmental conditions
  • Minimizes Sound: It minimizes the sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.
  • Heat Insulation: It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.
  • Anti-chipping property: If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.
  • CON’s: -
  • It’s Expansive. For wax-based coating you have to change it after a year and cost of other types of coating is relatively less but still underbody is quite expansive.
  • If it is not properly coated then risk of rusting and damage body parts is increases.
