Under body coating is done for new car and old car also, to prevent its under body from the corrosion i.e rust and also the internal part of the car body like panal, frame rail. Coating can be done in 4 types as
- Rubberized
- Asphalt
- Polyurethane and
- wax or paraffin
Coating can be done manual by using high speed robots and by auto frame is kept in bath of liquid coat.
Benefits or purpose of the under body coating
- Insulate against cold and heat
- Protect from corrosion
- It also hides weld
- It dampens sound and vibration for smooth driving
Under body coating is done after the electro deposition, which also used to absorb paint and underbody can be measured using Dry film thickness meter i.e Elcometer.
The coating thickness is more the occurrence of corrosion is less and if thickness is less than chance of corrosion is more. The car manufacturing company will not be coating the all body some areas are coated or fully coated its depends upon the budget of the car.
