Underbody Coating

Under Body Coating:

Under body coating as the name suggest here. Under body is refered as the area of vehicle which is under vehicle body and faces all the challeges/Problems thrown onto it by road. And the biggest problem the under body faces is rust. As we know Rust/Corrosion eats the metal which can cause major failure on vehicle. To avoid Rust, Corrosion resistance coating is applied on metallic componenets.

Various rust prevention coating are applied to underbody by manufcaturers to make sure their vehilce does not come in contact with rust and chip the material off, which can be bad for their brand value in the market.

Types of Coating:

1) Conversion Coating

2) Hot Melt Wax Coating

3) Electrocoat (E-Coat)

4) Powder Coating

Conversion Coating:

Phosphate Conversion Coating area Employed to enhance paint adhesion. by enhancing paint adhesion, they indirectly enhance corrosion resistance. there are several varities of phosphate coating, eg. iron, zinc & Manganese.

Hot Melt Wax Coating:

Hot Melt Wax coating are thermoplastic corrosion prevention compounds. Since the 1970's hot melt waxes have been used extensively on under body structural components to provide corrosion protection and enhance vehicle durability.

Electrocoat:

Electrophoretic deposition is a process in which electrically charged particles are deposited out of a water suspension to coat a conductive part.

Powder Coating:

In the powder coating process, a dry powder is applied to a clean surface. After application, the coated object is heated, fusing the powder into a smooth, continous film.

Pros:

1) Better Rust Prevention.

2) Reduces Noise.

3) Extended Vehicle life.

Cons:

1) Costly.

2) Coating can wear off due to stone bump and scratch on road.
