To model beams and bracings for industrial steel structures using TSD

1.

AIM: Create beam properties for First floor and model the beams

PROCEDURE:

  • we open the tekla structural file that we were working on
  • Now to make the beam properties, first we have to make the beams types
  • Go to Home tab->Manage property sets
  • property sets tab will open->Click on New ->steel beam
  • Edit the properties you want in that beam
  • Edit the name of the beam as per your convinience
  • Now go to the first floor/Intermediate floor level.
  • No beams will be seen initaly on this level as all were given on the ground floor.
  • Now go to model tab->Steel beams->select the beam property set you made for the first floor.
  • Apply the beams on the top of the columns
  • Now go to the Structure 3D view to see the model.
  • Now to create Secondary beam at first floor/intermediate floor
  • First we create property sets for the secondary beams at first floor
  • Go to home tab->manage property sets->New ->Members ->steel beams
  • Create materials for the property.
  • Now go to the levels->Open the intermediate floor
  • create construction lines according to the places you want the secondary beams
  • The construction lines showing is the places we will place the secondary beams on the intermediate floors
  • After applying the secondary beams on the first floor.
  • In structure 3D

2.

AIM: Create rafter beam on second floor as roof and moment frame action in one direction and add bracings at locations as per the design intent

PROCEDURE:

  • For the roof level->Open the roof level
  • since the roof level won't support high load therefore only primary beams are designed at roof level
  • check the beam used on the first floor and use the beams on the roof level
  • To check the beam types you used in the first floor
  • Go to review view->Click on property sets->change the characteristics to beams
  • It'll show the beams types used according to the colors.
  • Now use the beams on the roof level
  • Go to 3D view to view the same in 3D
  • First we adjust the column heights to the roof level.
  • Go to the roof level->scene content->uncheck the grids and beams (to only see the columns)
  • select all the columns ->go to properties panel
  • set the top level to Roof level(all the columns will be adjust to the roof lvl height)
  • To make the rafter beams->Go to Home panel
  • Manage property sets->Steel beams
  • input the proprties you want in it
  • Now frames are created->Go to model panel
  • Click on Frames->then select the grids lines where you want to create the frames
  • Now go to frame D->Create a construction line for the rafter intersecting at mid height
  • Now go to model panel->beams->select rafter beam and draw the rafter beam at the level
  • Now go to 3D view to see the same
  • Now we copy the same rafter over the other columns
  • select the rafter->Go to Edit->Copy
  • Select the reference point->then select the New point where you want to copy the points
  • Now we design the steel bracing for the structure
  • Go to Home tab->manage property sets->New->Steel braces
  • select the section->Equal angles(75x75x8)
  • Now go to the model tab->Braces and select the Brace1 from the properties browser
  • From the braces panel select the X brace
  • Now open the Frame 7 to view the section and draw the braces on the frame
  • Now similary put the brace where ever required
  • Go to 3D view to see the braces in 3D
  • Now the braces on the roof to be done
  • in the 3D view->Go to model panel
  • select the brace panel->select brace1 from the properties browser and draw the brace on th top roof
