Structural analysis of a buidling using Robot Structural Analysis

1) What are HVAC systems? Why are they essential in the modeling of buildings

HVAC SYSTEM STANDS FOR HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING. IN HEATING THEIR IS INCRESE IN TEMPERATUTRE.

IN VENTILATION THE OLD AIR IS REPLACED BY THE NEW AIR AND IN AIR CONDITIONING COOL AIR HEKPS TO REDUCE THE TEMPERATURE.

IT HELPS TO MOVE THE AIR BETWEEN INDDORS AND OUTDOORS. IT IS USED IN BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND COPMMERCUAL BUILDINGS

HVAC HAS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE AS TO PROVIDE COMFORT.

THE HVAC WORKS AS IT FIRST SOURCES A FRESH AIR INTAKAE FROM OUTSIDE OR FROM HOME WITHIN IN CASE OF VENTILATION

FOR COOLINS AND HEATING IT IS AN ARTIFIACL PROCESS WHERE IN HEATERS AND AIR CONDITONERS ARE PROVIDED.

2) From week 7 assignment, based on the building designed use the same Revit file to design a HVAC system for each floor to cover the topics included in the class.
a. Typical HVAC unit includes Distribution center
b. Collector
c. Ducts
d. Blower
Based on the layout choose appropriate ducts and elevation using property browser and assign the components to appropriate groups to complete modeling of the HVAC unit

AIM- TO PROVIDE HVAC SYSTEM FROM WEEK 7 PROJECT

PROCEDURE-

OPEN REVIT SOFTWARE

CLICK ON NEW AND THEN CLICK ON MECHANICAL TEMPELATE

SAVE THE PROJECT

THE CLICK ON INSERT AND LINK THE WEEK 7 FILE

NOW CLICK ON SYSTEM TAB AND THEN CLICK ON AIR TERMINAL

THEN SELECT SUPPLY DIFFUSER AND PLACE THE SUPPLY DIFFUSER WHERE REQUIRED.

NOW CLICK ON SYSTEM TAB AND THEN CLICK ON AIR TERMINAL

THEN SELECT SUPPLY DIFFUSER AND PLACE THE SUPPLY DIFFUSER WHERE REQUIRED AND REPEAT THE PROCCES SEVERAL TIMES

THEN SELEC T ALL THE SUPPLY DIFFRENT AND AIR HANDELLING

GO TO MODIFY TRAB AND CLICK ON DUCTS CLICK OK

CREATE THE MECHANIOCAL SIPPLY AIR SELKCT LAYOUT

NOW SELECT THE SYSTEM AND COPY IT TO ALL THE LEVELS

3) Use the add-ins tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis to your Revit software

AIM- TO ADD THE ROBOT STUCTURE TO REVIT SOFTWARE

PROCRDURE-

GO TO AUTODESK WEBSITE

SEARCH THE ROBOT STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS PROFESSIONAL

INSTAAL THE SETUP FILE

RESTART THE PC OR LAPI

THE OPEN THE REVIT SOFTWARE

CLICK ON NEW FILE

GO TO ANALYSE TAB TO THE ROBOT STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS PROFESSIONAL

4) Why do we need to assess buildings/analyze while modeling elements? Does design affect modeling in anyways?

Structure is one of the important component of building

The structural framework is the skeleton to the building

All ther losds and load transfer is taken care by creating the structural framework

analyzing a building is nothing but calculatiing forces and bending moments that occur when loads are applied

revit enables us to calulate the forces reactions bending moments that occur when loads are applied

analysis option making the work of the designer easy

the result of the analysis are used to verify a stuctures fitness for use often precluding physical test structural analysis is thus a key part of the engineering design of structures

5) From the structural model developed in week 6 and 7, export the complete analytical model to robot structural analysis.
a. List your assumptions on what boundary conditions will be realistic for the analysis approach
b. Use the design standards to decide what loads must be applied to floorings based on the type of structure decided
c. List the load combinations and include them in the analysis model
d. Analyze the building and report the following results
i. Maximum Moment in each floor for all Load Combinations
ii. Maximum Displacement in each floor for all Load combinations
iii. Lateral Displacement in building for all Lateral Load combinations
e. After analysis, do you think you have a better approach or idea in modeling structural members?

AIM- TO EXPORT THE COMPLETE ANALYTICAL MODEL TO ROBOT STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

PROCEDURE-

OPEN REVIT SOFTWARE

OPEN THE STRUTURAL MODEL PF WEEK 7 PROJECT

GO TO PROJECT BROWSER

AND CLICK ON ANALYTICAL MODEL

GO TO ANALYSE TAB AND SELECT LOAD OPTION

TAKE THE REQUIRED LOAD CONDITIONS THEN APPLY THE LOAD CONDITON

SELECT THE LOAD THEN CHANGE THE LOAD PARAMETRS

SLECT THE LOAD AND COPY IT AND THEN PASTE TO ALIGNED LEVELS

GO TO ANALYSE TAB AND SELECT LOAD OPTION

TAKE THE REQUIRED LOAD CONDITIONS THEN APPLY THE LOAD CONDITON

GO TO ANALYZE TAB THEN CLICK ON LAOD COMBINATIONS THEN NAME THE LOAD COMBINATIONS

CLICK ON ADD AND AND EDIT THE SEKECTED FORMULA

THEN CLICK ON TIMES AND THEN ON LAODS AND THEN SELCT THE FACTORED VALUE

REPEAT THE PROCEDURE OF LOAD COMBINATIONS

GO TO ANALYSE TAB CLICK ON RORBOT STRUTURAL LINK AND THEN CLICK OK

OPEN THE MODEL IN ROBOT STRUCTURAL ANAYLSIS SOFTWARE

NOW GO TO LOAD TAB SELECT THE AUTOMATIC COMBINATIONS THEN CLICK OK AND THEN SET THE LOAD COMBINATIONS

GO TO ANALYSIS TAB SELCET THE ANALYSIS TYPE THERN CLICK ON CALCULATE TO COMPUTE THE STRUTURAL CALCULATIONS

NOW GO TO RESULT TAB CLCIK ON DAIGRAM AND BARS

TICK THE DESCRIPTION BOX

MOMENT REACTIONS RESULT FOR DEAD AND LIVE LOAD

SUPPORT REACTIONS RESULT FOR DEAD AND LIVE LOADS

6) What is energy analysis and why do we need to consider it while modeling in Revit?

How does the factor of sustainability improve the quality of your design?

ANS- Energy analysis is the traditional method of assessing the way energy is used in an ioperation invovling the physical or chemical peocessing of materails and the transfer or conversion of energy

energy usage analysis of the buildings involves four principalsteps.

first is the calculation of the heatioss and gain to the building spaces and the heating and cooling koads imposed upon the building HVAC system. this calculations is carried out for space temperature fixed in time ans is commnly called gthe ;oad cazlulations

Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the enviroment and the health and comfort of builfing occupants thereby improving building performance. the basic objective od sustainability arer to reduce the consumption of non renewable resources minimize waste and create healthy productive enviroments.

it include the ability to

optimize site potential

minimize non-renewable energy consumption

use enviromentally perferable products
