Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

AIM

  1. To prepare a G+1 Residential building plan according to vaastu shastra
  2. To list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for the construction
  3. To calculate the Various loads from the members coming on to the structure as per the IS code

INTRODUCTION

According to the National Building Code of India, a residential building includes any building that comes with sleeping accommodation for normal residential purposes, without or with dining and cooking facilities. For a residential structure there are dead load ,live load and wind load acting on it.The loads calculations are done pertaining to the IS 875 part 1,part 2 and part 3 respectively. Here in this project a G+1 residential building with Living Room,Bed Room,Dinning Room,Kitchen,Store room,Work Area and Toilet has been prepared in accordance with the vaasthu shastra and the various load calculations have been carried out.

PROCEDURE

1.The Plan of a residential building is attached herewith

2.The list of structural drawings to be provided to the construction site are:

  • Centre line drawing
  • Footing and column layout(ground and first floor) with reinforcement details
  • Plinth beam layout with reinforcement details
  • Ground floor beam layout with reinforcement details
  • Ground floor slab layout with reinforcement details
  • First floor beam layout with reinforcement details
  • First floor slab layout with reinforcement details

3.Calculation of Dead Load , Live Load aand Wind Load

Let's Assume the sizes of various members:

Column:300mm x 300mm

Beams: 300mm x 450mm

Slabs :Thickness is 125mm

Outer wall :Thickness is 230mm

Inner wall :Thickness is 150mm

  1. Calculation of Dead Load-As per IS 875 part 1
  • For Columns:300mm x 300mm

Height of column=3m

For ground floor:Lets assume there are 18 columns

For first floor :Lets assume there are 11columns

As all the column cross sections and height are identical the dead load from each of the column is same

Dead load of individual column=Volume*Unit weight of RCC

=0.3*0.3*3*25= 6.75KN

  • For Beams: 300mm x 450mm

Lets assume the span of beam as 1m

As all the beam cross sections and span are identical the dead load from each of the beam is same

Dead load of individual Beam(Per meter span)=Area of cross section*Unit weight of RCC

=0.3*0.45*25=3.375KN/m

  • Slabs :Thickness is 125mm

Dead Load of Slab(Per unit area)=Thickness*Unit weight of RCC

=0.125*25=3.125KN/m2

  • For walls: Height of wall =3m

Assume thickness of outerwall=230mm

Assume thickness of inner wall=150mm

Lets assume the wall is made of Stone masonry

Unit weight of Stone masonry wall=24KN/m3

Dead load of wall=Height*Thickness*Unit weight of Stone

Dead load of outer wall=3*0.230*24=16.56KN/m

Dead load of inner wall=3*0.150*24=10.8KN/m

2.Calculation of Live Load-As per IS 875 part 2

  • Living -2KN/m2
  • Dinning -2KN/m2
  • Bedroom -2KN/m2
  • Kitchen -2KN/m2
  • Toilet -2KN/m2
  • Storeroom -3KN/m2
  • Staircase -3KN/m2
  • Balcony -3KN/m2
  • Terrace -3KN/m2

3.Calculation of Wind Load-As per IS 875 part 3

Inorder to consider or take to take the effect of wind load the building height should be more than 10m

For this particular building, total height is 9.25m.So we doesn't need to consider the effect of wind load

RESULT

A plan of the residential building with G+1 storey have been drawn according to vaasthu shastra. The various structural drawings required for the construction site have been listed out.The various load calculation(Dead load, live load and wind load) for the drawn residential building have been calculated.
