Section Modulus calculation and optimization
SECTION MODULUS
Section modulus is a geometric property of a cross section that indicates its strength in bending. it represents the distribution of material around the neutral axis and determines how much bending stress a section can hadle before failure
Z=I/Y
I = Moment of inertia (minimum moment of inertia considering factor of safety)
Y = distance from neutral axis
A higher section modulus means the section can withstand more bending stress
It helps in designing efficientand lightweight structures by optimizing material use
SECTION MODULUS CALCULATION
From the design section modus was calculated
given:
y=878.3851/2 =439.19255
Z:
MOI Value in first case (I) = 2.6888235663e10 to the power of 5

( an increase in the bottom hood inner panel section of 0.5 mm were considered for the second case.)
MOI Value in second case (I) = 2.728277999e10 to the power of 5

Z=I/y
Z1= 612.22 mm3
Z2= 621.43 mm3
Therefore, the section with higher section modulus, which is 621.43 mm3, is selected
this section was created by increasing the hood inner panel section upto 0.5 mm By doing this, we could increase the material's resistance to bending; it indicates a stronger and stiffer section, which is beneficial if the design must withstand more bending loads
