Section Modulus calculation and optimization

AIM:- use the section your design and calculation the section modulus using the formulas s= I/y.

from the below image, the steps for calculation the section modulus for the given surface can be seen. In order to see how actually the change the section modulus results in the behaviour of the material is it nessarcry to see what the section modulus actually is.

- method:

- section modulus:

- A ''section modulus is the value of the moment of ineretia of area related to the netural axis-section of the beam multaiple by the distance from the netutral axis to the outer surface therefor the relactionship between the section modulus z and the moment of inertia of the area I is as expressed by the following equation.

- The symbol z is used customarily for the section modulus in general, as the section modulus because larger the strenght againest bending also because larger regeding bending the maximum bending stress fi action on the outer surfec of the part can be calculated using the following equation.

- Second moment of area or moment of inertia

the second moment of inertia is also know as the moment of inertia of a shape it is directly related to the area of the material in the cross-section and the displacement of the area from the centriod is loacted, the more important structure properties of the shape can be calculated. the axis that determins the centriod is also known as the neutral axis (N/A).

The second moment of area is a measure of the efficiency of a shape to resist bending cause by loading. a beam teand to change its shape resistance to change.

This picture contain the following scean diagram of a beam on its narrow edge support at both ends A man is walking on a strenght beam. diagram of a beam resting on its flat side support at both ends a man is walking on the strienght beam and it is bending in the middle.

Certai shape are better than other at resisting bending as demonstrated in the diagram clearly the orientation of the shape also influence bending.

- in the its simplest way the more the section modulus is more the material is resistant to the deformation.

- to study how the value of section modulus change when there is a change in surface area, the following step are mentioned while using software.

-From the image, it can be seen that there are two value of section modulus when the I value is change 1st the M1 which is taken from the default shape and the 2nd one is taken from the new I where more surface area is taken.

-It can be seen that the 2nd value of the moment of inertia is more which result in more section modulus and this results in more resistance to the deformation.
