Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section Modulus
Section Modulus is the geometric property of the given cross-section of any shaft or beam structures. It is the direct measure of the strength of the shaft,beam or any other section.
- Ratio of total moment resisted by the section to the stress in the extreme fibre.
- It gives us an idea about how much of the load the given structure can take.
SECTION MODULUS, S= I/Y
I=Moment of inertia
M=Distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.
OBJECTIVE :-Come up with a new section that has improved the section modulus of the previous section and mention what change you made that has increased the strength.

I max = 8.385x10^6 mm^4
Y= 489.3/2=244.65
S= I/Y= 34273 mm^3
BENDING MOMENT ,B = Sxσ=17205046 N mm
MODIFIED PART HAVING AN OFFSET OF 3 MM

I max= 8.398x10^6 mm^4

B=Sxσ=17232154 N mm
CONLUSION
Higher the section modulus of a structure, the more the resistive it becomes to bending.If the gap increases section modulus also increases and hence its load bearing capacity.
