Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Aim:
To calculate the section modulus of their previously designed hood for analyzing its strength And also Optimizing the design to see the difference in the bending strength of the hood. Higher the section modulus of structure the more the resistive it becomes to bending.
Section modules:
Section modulus. Is the ratio of bending to the farther fiber from neutral axis or it is the measure of the strength of the beam. Ratio of moment of inertia to the distance from the neutral axis to the point where the bending normal stress is determined.
Section modulus (S) = I/Y
I = Moment of inertia of structure.
Y =Distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
Case 1:
For my hood design the moment of Inertia Values are given below,

Maximum moment of inertia = 8.973412371e+07mm^4
Minimum moment of inertia = 2.806035709e+05mm^4
The total distance of hood Y = 880 .5312mm
Distance between the neutral axis to the Extreme end = (880.5312/2) = 440.2656mm
To find section models of Hood section Where must calculate
S = I/Y
S =2.806035709e+05mm^4 / 440.2656 mm
S =637.35 mm^3
Case 2:
To increase the Residence to bending of hood, we must make an importance in section modulus of hood. So, I have made some change in my hood design and its section is given below,

Maximum moment of inertia = 8.973374268e+07mm^4
Minimum moment of inertia = 2.852354148e+05mm^4
To find section modulus of new hood section. We calculate
S = I/Y
S = 2.852354148e+05mm^4 /440.2656 mm
S =647. 87 mm^3
Conclusion:
In this study we take the minimum of inertia moment to analysis the minimum limit of food deformation. Thus, the section modulus of the front hood was calculated and compared with the new design. From the result, we found out that increasing the cross-section area would give their better section modulus and help. In. Increasing the strength of the hood.
