Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Aim:
To Use the Section from your Hood design and calculate the section modulus using the formula S = I/y
S = Section Modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.
Procedure:
i) Case-1:
Moment Of Inertia:
* Take the Hood model, and Use Intersect to draw the Intersecting lines.

* And when the intersection is taken, there will be some gaps, due to the embosses. So, Draw the Lines by giving POINT-TO-POINT.
* And, Use Split to Join the lines from the Top intersected line and the current line. So the lines will get split and come up like this as shown below.

* Give Fill to create the surface, So that the inertia will be calculated.

* Select MEASURE INERTIA as given below, and select 2-D.

* The momenta is converted into millimeters, which is (2.184*10^5mm^4)
Section Modulus:
* Go to Sketch and Mark the Points on the both Ends of the surface.
* Draw the construction Lines and measure the length of the lines.
* Divide the value by 2.
* The Obtained Value is 447.166

So, Given Value:
I = 2.184*10^5
S = 447.2945
S = I/y
y = 2.184*10^5/447.166
y = 488.409
Case-ii)
Moment Of Inertia:
* Use Multiple Extract of the Bottom part of the intersection line and use Parallel curve for upto 5 mm.

* Join the Top surface and The line which is created by using Parallel curve.

* Fill the Surface and Calculate the Inertia.

* The moment is converted into millimeters, which is (2.304*10^5mm^4)
Section Modulus:
* Go to Sketch and Mark the Points on the both Ends of the surface.
* Draw the construction Lines and measure the length of the lines.
* Divide the value by 2.
* The Obtained Value is 447.2945

So, Given Value:
I = 2.304*10^5
S = 447.2945
S = I/y
y = 2.184*10^5/447.166
y = 515.244
From The Calculation, we observe that the Y is directly proportional to the surface area.
