Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section modulus is a geometric property that measures the strength of a shaft or beam structure. It's used to calculate the bending stresses in a structural member.
Section modulus is defined as the ratio of the moment of inertia of a section about its centroidal axis to the distance of the extreme layer from the neutral axis. It can also be defined as the ratio of total moment resisted by the section to the stress in the extreme fiber, which is equal to yield stress.

IN THE BELOW IMAGE ORANGE LINE SHOWES ORIGINAL SECTION AND BLUE LINE SHOWS CHANGED OR MODIFIED SECTION

THE SECTION OF THE IMPROVED BODY (BELOW)

LENGTH OF THE “Y” IS TAKEN AS HALF THE DISTANCE OF TWO EXTREAMS AS IN THE FIGURE BELOW (l/2) l=881.0465

MOI OF ORIGINAL SECTION

MOI OF IMPROVED SECTION,new section that has an improved Section Modulus

FORMULA
S = I/y
Where,
S = Section Modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
CALCULATION:
Y = 881.0465/2=440.52325
MOI OF ORIGINAL SECTION: 1.556580929e+04[mm*4]=8.231225654
MOI OF IMPROVED SECTION: 1.83779283e+04[mm*4] =8.995638854
Original section modulus
S = I/y
=8.231225654/440.52325
=0.01868511061mm*4
Improved section modulus
S = I/y
=8.995638854/440.52325
=0.02042034979mm*4
Difference in section modulus is
0.0204 - 0.0186=0.0018mm*4
Conclusion
The section is improved with the increase in section of modulus ofwith the value of .0018mm*4
