REPORT - ROOF DESIGN

OBJECTIVE - Design a Roof, Front Roof Rail, Rear Roof Rail, Centre Roof Rail, Bow Roof 1, Bow Roof 2 with given Master-section and also check for the Heat distortation and Snow Load condition.

INTRODUCTION -

An automobile roof or car top is the portion of an automobile that sits above the passenger compartment, protecting the vehicle occupants from sun, wind, rain, and other external elements. Because the earliest automobiles were designed in an era of horse-drawn carriages, early automobile roofs used similar materials and designs.

In later years, many variations on the automobile roof developed. These include:

The Roof consists of the following parts:

  1. Front Roof Rail
  2. Centre Roof Rail
  3. Rear Roof Rail
  4. Bow Roof 1
  5. Bow Roof 2

1. Front Roof Rail - The Front Rail Roof is created on the front end of the roof to strengthen it from front.

2. Centre Roof Rail -  It is created in the centre of the roof.

3. Rear Rood Rail - It is created on the rear end of the roof and while designing we have to consider the tail gate position as well.

4. Bow Roof 1 - It is created in between the Front Rail Roof and Cetre rail roof.

5. Bow Roof 2 - It  is created in between the the Centre rail roof and Rear rail roof.

The given data for the Roof is as follows:

1. Master Section of Front Roof rail -

2. Master Section of Centre Roof Rail -

3. Master Section of Rear Roof Rail -

4. Master Section of Bow Roof -

DRAFT ANALYSIS -

The Draft Analysis is done each and every components with a minimum draft angle of 7 degree.

HEAT DISTORTATION CRITERIA -

Heat Distortation temperature is a temperature under which metals deforms under a specific load. while designing a roof the criteria is taken into consideration.

Heat Distortation criteria -

Hence, The Roof satisfies the satisfies the criteria of Heat Distortaions.

SNOW LOAD CRITERIA -

Snow load is the downward force on a building's roof by the weight of accumulated snow and ice. The roof or the entire structure can fail if the snow load exceeds the weight the building was designed to shoulder. Or if the building was poorly designed or constructed. It doesn't take a blizzard to cause problems.

SNOW LOAD CRITERIA -

It is cleared that the roof is satisfying the Snow Load Criteria

SECTION MODULUS OF ROOF RAILS -

Section modulus is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of beams or flexural members. Other geometric properties used in design include area for tension and shear, radius of gyration for compression, and moment of inertia and polar moment of inertia for stiffness. Any relationship between these properties is highly dependent on the shape in question.

Sectional Modulus (Z): It is the ratio of moment of inertia (I) of the beam cross-section about the neutral axis to the distance (ymax) of extreme fiber from the neutral axis, The section modulus (Z) of the cross-sectional shape is significant in designing beams. It is a direct measure of the strength of the beam.

i.e,   S = I / y

where S = Section Modulas

          I = Moment of Inertia

          y = distance from the neutral axis

1. Front Roof Rail -

S = I / y

   = (9.230188107e+03 ) / (126.859/2)

   = 145.51 mm^3

2. Bow Roof 1 -

      S = I / y

         = (985.573331510) / (35)

         = 28.159 mm^3

3. Centre Roof Rail -

S = I / y

   = (1.13502441e +03) / 40

   = 28.375 mm^3

4. Bow Roof 2 -

S = I / y

   = 913.963039362 / 35

   = 26.113 mm^3

5. Rear Roof Rail -

 S = I / y

    = (3.594880715e + 04) / (186.51/2)

    = 38.591 mm^3
